Michaella at 22' was created as a part of the Sighting Black Girlhood' Project in collaboration with NLS Kingston, University of Pennsylvania and The Coloured Girl's Museum. The video is made from 24 drawings in sequence of young artist Michaella Garrick in the summer she graduated from The Edna Manley College of the Visual & Performing Arts' Painting Department. Michaella's thesis work was an installation made of space partitions made of woven sugar cane skins and beds as a way of creating a safe space for women to revisit their trauma. This portrait sought to create a space of rest for Michaella as well, if even visually, as she did for other women.
